Power On
Hark, heroes of the Lorehaven Guild! Join our second Book Quest, starting next Tuesday, Feb. 1.
This time we’re leaping into the adventures of H. L. Burke, starting with her YA super-story Power On. Our new quest leader, Ticia Messing, loved this book when she read it last fall. She can’t wait to find new fans for this adventure.
Author H. L. Burke will share super giveaways
Also, while C. S. Lewis couldn’t join our last Book Quest (that, my dear children, would be called necromancy), author H. L. Burke certainly can. In fact, she has a few super-gifts to share:
Hello, my name is Heidi/H. L. Burke, and as the author of Power On, I’m delighted and honored that you’ll be reading it in February.
As a long time fan of superhero based entertainment, this series and its extended universe is close to my heart, and I can’t wait to share it with all of you.
If you are a fan of found family and snarky humor, or you just like the idea of a series featuring an invisible ferret, then I think you’ll enjoy it.
I’m looking forward to reading along with all of you, and I’ll try not to laugh at my own jokes too obviously.
Also, I am donating a signed copy of Power On for a giveaway. I’ll do a random drawing from amongst the participants and announce the winner in late February. I will also do some smaller prize drawings throughout the month for things like stickers, magnets, and pins related to the SVR/DOSA universe from the story.
Lorehaven reviews Power On
H. L. Burke’s superhero adventure Power On splices the creative powers of Secondhand Lions, The Breakfast Club, and Sky High. Jake is convinced he’s a supervillain. If he can only escape this supervillain rehabilitation camp, he can return to his true family and his life of crime. Instead he’s forced to confront his beliefs as he works with his fellow superpowered teen villains who are learning to control their powers. His new friends could turn on him for their own ends, especially if he manages to change his villainous ways. Power On lights up an enjoyable superhero world, charging quickly toward themes of a man’s responsibility to himself and others.
Best for: Young-adult fans of redemption stories, superheroes, and coming-of-age tales.
Discern: Some abuse of power by law officers as well as emotional abuse by parents and adults.

About the Lorehaven Guild
The Lorehaven Guild serves a community of heroes who gather to celebrate Christian-made fantastical fiction with delight and discernment. These stories include (but are not limited to) fantasy, science fiction, and beyond.
Heroes of the Guild will explore their favorite creative works in these genres. We will focus on Christian-made stories, yet occasionally include general market books.
Guild heroes can join monthly Main Quest parties that travel into the fantastical worlds of new books. We will explore these stories’ beauty, goodness, and truth (and opposites!), applying their meanings to the real world of our ultimate Author.
Heroes can also join occasional Side Quest parties that travel into other books, such as older Christian-made stories or general market novels.
