To Published & Beyond – One Author’s Voyage Pt. 4
Stuart Stockton, Sep 14, 2010
When we last left off, it had been six years since I started writing Starfire. I had learned a great deal more about the writing industry and the writing craft. And while my writing garnered me praise from my peers, […]
Changes In The Writing Industry – Ray Gun Revival
Rebecca LuElla Miller, Sep 13, 2010
Newspapers have downsized, magazines have folded, publishing houses have laid off staff, and the overall climate in the writing industry seems to be one of uncertainty. Yes, the economy is partly responsible, but another significant part of this unsettled tenor […]
Guest Post By Author Eric Reinhold, Part 2
Rebecca LuElla Miller, Sep 10, 2010
Today, we’re continuing a post by Eric Reinhold, actually a transposition of Eric’s answers in an earlier interview. * * * God works things out in his own time and in hindsight it’s fun to look back and see how […]
Learning From Bad Books, Part 1
E. Stephen Burnett, Sep 9, 2010
“The whole world is turning into scrambled eggs.” Larry marched to the window. […] Jimmy pointed out the window. “Do you notice something strange? Several cars have driven off the road and been abandoned there on Pacific Coast Highway and […]
Who Am I?
E. Stephen Burnett, Sep 8, 2010
Don’t worry, this isn’t going to be one of those angsty metaphysical posts. I just thought that, since I’m going to be posting here every other Wednesday, some of you might like to know who I am. Ahem. Hi, I’m […]
To Published & Beyond – One Author’s Voyage Pt. 3
Stuart Stockton, Sep 7, 2010
The years of 2002 through 2006 were great years for my writing journey. I was still fresh and full of hope. I got plugged into critique groups that helped provide encouragement as well as good suggestions on how to tighten […]

Rebecca LuElla Miller, Sep 6, 2010
Nineteen nominations. Thirty days of voting. One winner. After deleting ineligible ballots and ones that did not adhere to the instructions, I can now reveal the 2010 Clive Staples Award winner. Since no nomination had a majority of first place […]

Heeding The Cries Of A Newborn Novel
E. Stephen Burnett, Sep 2, 2010
Tuesday night. This week brought us a new schedule, with adjustments to our daily chores and other tasks, so we’ve gone to bed early. All the lights are out, the air-conditioner is running, all is comfortable and quiet … yet […]
Interview With Kaci Hill
Kaci Hill, Sep 1, 2010
E. Stephen Burnett: Good afternoon. Kaci Hill: Greetings and hail. Had a good day? E. Stephen Burnett: Indeed, though it’s not over yet. Still need to write my column for Spec-Faith on Thursday, which I’ll probably try to do tomorrow. […]

Stuart Stockton, Aug 31, 2010
First, a quick note that Marcher Lord Press has just posted their October titles! It’s a great bunch of books you won’t want to miss. ——————————- About a year after I started serious work on Starfire I attended my first writer’s […]
Of Hobbits and Heroes
Rebecca LuElla Miller, Aug 30, 2010
Reminder: two days remaining to vote for the 2010 Clive Staples Award – Readers’ Choice. Be sure to read the voting instructions carefully. – – – In literature as in life, heroism does not necessarily demand a Great Thing, such […]

Weird Science
Stuart Stockton, Aug 27, 2010
One of my favorite pastimes is wandering the internet wastelands looking for weird bits of science & culture that pop up to see if there is something that I could modify for use in my stories. One of my all-time […]
Reality and The Supernatural In Peretti’s ‘The Visitation’
E. Stephen Burnett, Aug 26, 2010
Fiction and poetry provide authors a unique way to glorify Christ that more overtly intellectual genres, like theology, simply can’t. These genres that aim directly for the heart and soul—rather than aiming at the heart through the mind—do not argue […]
The Stakes Are High
E. Stephen Burnett, Aug 25, 2010
For many years I lived in the middle of nowhere. And there I spun my own somewheres in writing, and I read classic fantasy novels without much exposure to current writers of Christian spec-fic — which is a long way […]
To Published & Beyond — One Author’s Voyage Pt.1
Stuart Stockton, Aug 24, 2010
For the next few weeks I’m going to be talking about my path to becoming a published author of science fiction and what life has been like for me on the other side. My novel, Starfire, was conceived in a Laundromat back in the year 2000. I was fresh out of college and had just moved into a basement apartment, ready to take on the world. For years I had been messing around with characters and concepts surrounding my world of Sauria, but I’d never actually gotten a story to coalesce into a novel. I decided it was time to change that.
CSFF Blog Tour – Your Favorite
Rebecca LuElla Miller, Aug 23, 2010
I’m partly to blame. When the previously scheduled CSFF featured book for August was pulled by the publisher, I agreed with the suggestion that we turn this month into a Your Favorite feature. A great idea, really, and I’m so […]
Beware The ‘Moon People’!
E. Stephen Burnett, Aug 20, 2010
In Which the Author Attempts to Demonstrate the Unique Pitfalls Often Associated with Lack of Accountability, Shunning Editors and the Unfortunate Enablement Offered by Vanity Publishing. Reviewers give it four-and-a-half stars on Amazon.com. Despite its humble origins and short length, […]
Speculative Fiction: Genre Of The After-world
E. Stephen Burnett, Aug 19, 2010
“You wouldn’t be Elizabeth McMillan, now would you?” Already his eyes had turned up to her, and his familiarity with her name could be a good sign. “That’d be me.” Should she thank him for remembering? That could sound much […]
What’s Your WIP?
E. Stephen Burnett, Aug 18, 2010
It occurs to me that three weeks into the relaunched Speculative Faith, I don’t know two things: Where the acronym WIP, Work in Progress, originated: an industry term, or informal? What novels Speculative Faith readers, and my fellow contributors here, […]
On The Back Cover …
E. Stephen Burnett, Aug 17, 2010
This is my copy of That Hideous Strength, the third of the “Space Trilogy” by C.S. Lewis. If for some reason the photo here isn’t showing or you can’t make out the words, here is this edition’s back-cover copy: The […]
The Christian View Of Culture
Rebecca LuElla Miller, Aug 16, 2010
Nothing for the Christian is essentially secular. It can only be secularized by leaving God out of it or by engaging in that from which God, by his nature, must be excluded. – The Real Face of Atheism by Ravi […]
Dawn’s Unending Horizon
E. Stephen Burnett, Aug 13, 2010
Coming soon (this Tuesday, shortly before 3:13 pm) to an inspirational shelf near you … I’ve decided to give up on this whole speculative thing. Instead, it would much better serve Jesus, and the people in churches — at least, […]
No Rice At The Lord’s Wedding? — Part 2
E. Stephen Burnett, Aug 12, 2010
For years I’ve been keeping up with religious trends, wrong ideas and excesses among people who call themselves Christians. That’s my job, as a pastor. I show people truths they have not considered, open new worlds to them through preaching. […]
Demons, Driscoll and Discerning ‘Twilight’
E. Stephen Burnett, Aug 11, 2010
One of America’s most well-known megachurch pastors isn’t taking a shine to a certain teen-vampire megaseries. But calling for Biblical discernment does not equal Biblical discernment, Mark Driscoll is overdoing the whole “demons inspired these books” notion.
Should Fiction Show Only A Good-parts Gospel?
E. Stephen Burnett, Aug 10, 2010
Does Jesus Christ “meet people where they are”? If He did, should Christian artists do the same? If so, what does that involve? Such questions affect all storytelling, music and films made by Christians, including our fantasy and science fiction. […]
Fantasy and A Christian Worldview
Rebecca LuElla Miller, Aug 9, 2010
One of the reasons I love to write fantasy is because of the good vs. evil conflict present in the stories. In most fantasy types—classic or high fantasy, adventure fantasy, even fairy-tale fantasy—good and evil are defined in rather stark, […]
‘He Is Her Hunter — and Her Slave’!
E. Stephen Burnett, Aug 6, 2010
Aside from my hand there, this photo is not arranged. My wife and I spotted this last week at a Presbyterian church rummage sale. And we had to wonder if the same Presbyterian had read and enjoyed both books. Ah, […]
Speculative Faith: The Next Generation
E. Stephen Burnett, Aug 5, 2010
Like many good novels, this site has re-launched with a “hook” and just kept going. Readers can wait to learn the backstory, right? (Perhaps you disagree — if so, say so.) Some of you may know this, having been keeping […]
