For example, debut novelist Candace Kade’s new YA sci-fi Enhanced is set in a future Asian world of genetic engineering and social-credit systems.
“Come meet the author, Candace Kade, and get your copy autographed hot off the press!” Foley said. “Also meet one of our upcoming 2023 debut authors and get some exclusive swag. Or for something unique, consider my Christian fantasy novel, Silverblood, winner of the Realm Makers 2022 Fantasy award. I’d love to sign it for you and answer all of your burning questions about traditional Christian books, independent publishing, marketing, and everything in between.”
Kade grew up in China and was homeschooled through high school grades.
“I also attended a local Chinese school in the mornings for language, sports, and making friends,” Kade said. “This educational experience was perfect for me and began my journey to become an author. You’ll see lots of cultural influences from my time in China in my newly released sci-fi novel, Enhanced, but that initial spark of creativity and the time to explore writing was only possible because of my parents’ decision to homeschool me. So if you’re homeschooling, considering it, or just looking for a clean book for your kids to read, come talk to me at TTD! I might even teach you some Mandarin while I’m at it.”
Katherine Briggs, author of Enclave’s upcoming fantasy The Eternity Gate (September 2023) will also appear at the booth.
Meanwhile, discover Lorehaven’s mission to explore fantastical stories for God’s glory with author and speaker E. Stephen Burnett.
How Can We Find Great Stories for Our Children’s Good?
Many fantastical tales look okay but may endorse ungodly ideas. That’s why more conservative groups are offering newer fiction to teach your kids moral values. How can Christian parents find the good stuff that will disciple your children’s heads and hearts? Lorehaven.com founder E. Stephen Burnett (coauthor of The Pop Culture Parent) explores discernment in light of the gospel, offering practical resources for parents to share the best books and other stories within the body of Christ.

More about the authors
E. Stephen Burnett creates sci-fi and fantasy novels as well as nonfiction, exploring fantastical stories for God’s glory as publisher of Lorehaven.com and cohost of the Fantastical Truth podcast. As the oldest of six, he enjoys connecting with his homeschool roots by speaking at conferences for Christian families and creators. Stephen is coauthor of The Pop Culture Parent: Helping Kids Engage Their World for Christ from New Growth Press (with Ted Turnau and Dr. Jared Moore). Stephen and his wife, Lacy, live in the Austin area, where they help with foster parenting and serve as members of Southern Hills Baptist Church.
Jamie Foley is director of marketing at Enclave Publishing, a leading publisher of Christian speculative fiction. She’s also the founder of Fayette Press, an alliance of clean fantasy and sci-fi authors, as well as author of The Sentinel Trilogy and The Katrosi Revolution. Jamie loves strategy games, home-grown berries, and Texas winters. She’s terrified of plot holes and red wasps. Her husband is her manly cowboy astronaut muse. They live between Austin, Texas and their family cattle ranch, where their hyperactive spawnling and wolfpack can run free.
Candace is a recovering over-achiever who spends her time dreaming up stories typically involving tech, psychology, culture, and/or swords. She’s a certified Krav Maga assistant instructor and loves writing action-packed martial art scenes. A third culture kid, she considers Chengdu and Austin to be her homes. When she’s not exploring new countries, she enjoys hiking in national parks, moving, teaching her husband Mandarin, and keeping a baby human alive. She can be bribed with boba tea, fluffy puppies, and breakfast tacos.
James R. Hannibal (Bear Knight, Lightraiders)
Former stealth pilot James R. Hannibal is no stranger to secrets and adventure. He has been shot at, locked up by surface to air missiles, has hunted insurgents with drones, and was once chased by an armed terrorist down a winding German road. James is the Carol Award–winning author of the Clandestine Service series and a three-time winner of the Silver Falchion Award for Juvenile Fiction for his Section 13 series. He also stewards the discipleship learning adventure game formerly known as DragonRaid, now relaunched as LightRaiders.
“Lightraiders will be there to talk about our upcoming game launch,” Hannibal said. “We’re excited about the interactive game we’ll be playing with the audience on Friday. Dash will be at the booth. He’s so excited about a new picture one of artists made of him, that he’ll be singing prints to give away with every book or game sold.”
You can join game players, led by Hannibal, for the interactive Lightraiders adventure on Friday, March 24 at 4:20 p.m.
Hannibal’s latest novel, Bear Knight, just released from Enclave to guide fans deeper into the world of Lightraider Academy.
