Hybrid

Urban has pretended all her life to be genetically enhanced. Now she carries that pretense into a dangerous bloodsport versus violent players in search of two people—the genetic hybrid whose DNA will rewrite her society’s rules, and for her own father. In Hybrid, Candace Kade continues the vivid science fiction tech-infused landscape of Enhanced. Urban’s and other heroes’ mission leaves little room for philosophical questions on human genetic engineering. Yet The Hybrid Series book 2 splices a compelling vision of a world formed from Asian and Western cultures, threaded with themes of family and belonging.

Best for: Teen and young adult fans of sci-fi and dystopian fiction.

Discern: Some violence, murder and kidnapping, unethical scientific experiments conducted on humans, heroes participate in illegal activities and pose dangers to others, multiple instances of inebriation, children act rebelliously against their parents.
